Mother Baby Unit
The Mother Baby Unit offers inpatient and day programs for families who experience difficulties and adjustment following the arrival of a new baby.
The unit has 6 beds and can accommodate mothers in the antenatal and postnatal period with their babies and can also provide overnight accommodation for fathers at an additional cost.
The Mother Baby Unit offers an inpatient program for babies below 12 months old with sleep and settling difficulties, and also for mothers who are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety or adjustment in the weeks and months after childbirth.
All mothers and babies admitted to the Mother and Baby Unit will be provided with a private room and babies are offered a separate sleep room with video monitoring if needed to help support mother and baby with sleep and settling. Each room is equipped with a safe for any personal belongings.Families will have access to tea and coffee making facilities, a kitchen with dining area, as well as hospital Wi-Fi.
For admission to the Mother and Baby Unit private health cover is recommended and a referral from your specialist or GP is required. Once the referral is received, the referred person will be added to our waiting list. Mothers/carers will be notified of availability and provided with a planned admission date and time.
The sleep and settling program is a three night program, which provides assessment, education and support strategies for babies with unsettled behaviour or sleeping difficulties.
Every baby is assessed by a Paediatrician who in consultation with the nursing staff, will provide an individual care plan.

Please advise our staff when discussing your admission, if your child has been unwell in the past few weeks.
Mothers who experience symptoms of depression, anxiety or adjustment or other postpartum difficulties are admitted under the care of a Psychiatrist.
This program is based on a recovery model and participation in individual, group therapy and ward programs are encouraged.
We have a range of specialists including psychiatrists, paediatricians, psychologists, nurse therapists, art therapists, social workers.

Please do not bring valuables into the hospital as we cannot be held responsible for any items or belongings that are damaged or go missing.
Our visiting hours are from 2 – 8pm. Other arrangements can be made with staff. Partners are welcome to stay overnight at an additional cost.
New Mothers Support Program
Northpark Private Hospital’s New Mothers Support Program is a 10 week Day Rehabilitation program specifically designed for women who experience emotional distress/disorders associated with childbirth, adjustment and other child-related difficulties.
This program offers strategies and skills to assist new mothers to deal with these emotional difficulties as well as equip them with the necessary skills to help support their infant’s health and wellbeing.
- Managing depression and anxiety
- Stress management and relaxation
- Improving communication skills
- Problem-solving and time management
- Mother and infant relationship enhancement
- Improving self-esteem
- Exploring and enhancing support networks; and
- Setting realistic expectations and goals.
This closed program runs throughout the year on Thursdays from 10.00 to 3.00pm, and is ideally suited for mothers of babies between birth to one year of age. Mothers are welcome and encouraged to bring their child with them. Mothers of children aged one to five years of age may attend the program alone.
